60 Years of the “Amber Prix”Why Is the “Amber Prix” Book Unique?

In May 2027, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the “Amber Prix International” Bodybuilding Tournament, an academic monograph will be published documenting the history of one of the world's oldest continuously organized international bodybuilding competitions. The book will be released in several languages and will form an important part of the anniversary celebrations to be held in Klaipėda, Lithuania.

What makes this publication different?

A review of the nearly completed manuscript reveals its greatest strength: the originality of its research focus. Until now, most books on the history of bodybuilding have concentrated on the sport's legendary personalities—Eugen Sandow, Steve Reeves, John Grimek, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Weider, and many others who shaped the development of modern bodybuilding.

This monograph takes a fundamentally different approach. Rather than focusing on individual athletes, it examines the evolution of bodybuilding organizations, the development of international cooperation, the creation of competition systems, and bodybuilding's long journey toward official recognition as a sport.

This subject has received remarkably little systematic attention in the international historiography of bodybuilding. As a result, the book is not merely the story of the legendary “Amber Prix” tournament; it is an original scholarly work that enriches the literature on sports history by presenting a new and previously unexplored perspective.

The history of the “Amber Prix” is presented here as part of a much broader narrative—the story of the emergence of the international bodybuilding movement, the development of its governing organizations, and the worldwide efforts that ultimately led to bodybuilding's recognition as an officially acknowledged sport.

This is the monograph's defining feature and its greatest scholarly contribution.
