MICKEY HARGITAY

Hungarian origin American MICKEY HARGITAY (Mickey Hargitay, Miklos “Mickey” Hargitay, 1926 – 2006) was a Hollywood actor and bodybuilder. He was involved in bodybuilding inspired by the pictures of bodybuilders in BOB HOFFMAN’s magazines. His beloved athletes were STEVE STANKO, STEVE REEVES and JOHN GRIMEK. MICKEY HARGITAY participated at twelve A.A.U. and N.A.B.B.A. amateur and professional bodybuilding contests. His best result was the win at the 1955 N.A.B.B.A. “Mr. Universe”. Though he has never been I.F.B.B. athlete, JOE WEIDER awarded him with a Honour Award. In “The Jayne Mansfield Story” ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER played role of MICKEY HARGITAY.

JIM PARK

Bodybuilder JIM PARK (1927 – 2007) started training after visiting A.A.U. “Mr. America” in 1947. The first win was 1948 “Mr. Illinois”. In 1951 he won the A.A.U. “Mr. World” and in 1954 N.A.B.B.A. Professional “Mr. Universe”.

BILL PEARL

An USA bodybuilder BILL PEARL (1930) was called the "World's Best Built Man of the Century". In 1953 he became A.A.U. „Mr. America“ Champion. In 1971 BILL PEARL at the N.A.B.B.A. „Mr. Universe“ contest won against Americans FRANK ZANE (1942), SERGIO OLIVA (1941 – 2021) and British REG PARK (1928 – 2007). He was four times Winner of the N.A.B.B.A. „Mr. Universe“ and also he was the first in the World to use music while posing on the stage.

HISTORIC F.I.H.C. BODYBUILDING „MR. UNIVERSE“ CONTESTS.

Since 1947 until 1969 a member of the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) International Weightlifting Federation F.I.H.C. (previor F.I.H., Federation Internationale Halterophile) rulled the World‘s official bodybuilding sport and organized International bodybuilding contests. The Over All Champions of the first F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ competitions were pupils of BOB HOFFMAN (Robert Collins Hoffman, 1898-1985) Americans STEVE STANKO (1917 – 1978; 1947 F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ in Philadelphia, USA) and JOHN GRIMEK (John Carroll Grimek, 1910-1998; 1948 F.I.H.C. „Mr. Universe“ in London, UK).

In 1963 following F.I.H.C. regulations the U.S.S.R. Sport Ministry (Goskomsport) set the first in the Socialist Countries International Bodybuilding Organization.

The bodybuilding contest story of the British DAVE JOHNS (1945-1986) is fascinating. He participated nearly twenty years at A.A.U., N.A.B.B.A., W.A.B.B.A. and I.F.B.B. contests. DAVE JOHNS was the 1974 and 1976 A.A.U. “Mr. USA” Champion and 1976 and 1977 A.A.U. “Mr. America” Winner. In 1978 DAVE JOHNS won N.A.B.B.A. “Mr. Universe” Category and the Over All Title.

SAM LOPRINZI

Being thirteen years old Italian origin American bodybuilder SAM LOPRINZI (1913-1996) together with his brothers JOE, GUS and PHILLIP started bodybuilding exercises. SAM LOPRINZI was the 1946 A.A.U. “Mr. America” Second Place Winner. The champion then was a Lithuanian origin American bodybuilder ALAN STEPHAN (Albertas Steponavičius, 1924). Also in 1946 SAM LOPRINZI was the Winner at the “Most Muscular Man” Contest.

British bodybuilder JOHN LEES (1930) started participating at bodybuilding contests in 1949. Until 1957 he was five times at top three at the N.A.B.B.A. “Mr. Universe” competitions (1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1956). In 1950 and 1957 JOHN LEES became the winner of the N.A.B.B.A. “Mr. Universe” and in 1957 he was the Over All Champion of the same contest.

ALAN CALVERT – FOUNDER OF FIRST BARBELL COMPANY IN AMERICA.

ALAN CALVERT (1875 – 1944) was an American weightlifter, businessman, magazine publisher, and the author of several books. In 1902 he was the founder of one of the first barbell companies in the world and one of the first strength-training magazines in the United States. ALAN CALVERT named his Company  “Milo Barbell Company”.

BOB HOFFMAN.

American BOB HOFFMAN (Robert Collins Hoffman, 1898-1985 m.) is called the “Father of World Weightlifting”. From 1947 until 1969 through A.A.U. (Amateur Athletic Union)  and F.I.H.C. (Federation Internationale Halterophile et Culturisme) which was and still is a member of the I.O.C. (International Olympic Committee) BOB HOFFMAN rulled the offcial world bodybuilding sport. BOB HOFFMAN was officially accepted by two USA Presidents at the White House. Also BOB HOFFMAN was appointed the Advisor of the USA President for the “Physical Fitness” affairs.
